SOCIALISTS DEFEAT COMMUNISTS LONDON, January 11. In the Austrian municipal elections, the Socialists heavily defeated the Communists, gaining 7000 seats, or more than 60 per cent, of the total. GIPSY CHARGED WITH FRAUD MONEY OBTAINED FROM SPINSTER (Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, January 11. A 54-year-old gipsy woman named Worrall, who said she could neither read nor write, was charged in the Cardigan Court with obtaining £2123 in cash, and goods worth £42, from a 42-year-old spinster, Pattie Phyllis Davies, by telling her fortune and promising to find her a husband. Miss Davies, who said that she had lived all her life in the remote Pembrokeshire village of Velindre told the magistrates that Worrall had paid her frequent visits between June, 1945, and last October, and told her that she would inherit a large sum of money and also marry. The gipsy named her future husband. said Miss Davies, but he turned out to be already married. The gipsy told her that “she would make things come true in time if money were put on the planet.” Miss Davies said that she entrusted money to Worrall “to put on the planet,” and never saw it again. Worrall was refused bail and committed f-'t trial.
