MEASURES FOR MORAL REARMAMENT

.DISCUSSION AT NATIONAL ASSEMBLY (P.A.) WELLINGTON, January 10. The opinion that every section of the community stood in great need of better understanding of the others was shareci by all who attended a national moral rearmament assembly, which has just concluded in Wellington. It was agreed that all who were present —representatives of the industrial, professional, farming, and commercial sections of the community and housewives—should individually and collectively carry forward a war on the militant materialism abroad in the world to-day, the aim of which appeared to be to divide and destroy. To fight this spirit of materialism, it was reported, training was being* taken by New Zealanders in Britain for the work of the movement. Its influence in Britain, particularly in industrial relations, was said to be showing remarkable results in ensuring harmony between management and labour, uotably in several coalmining areas. Practical measures towards greater understanding between the different interests in New Zealand industry were reported. It was recorded that one firm employing two thousand workers had a team of men commjtted to finding a plan for true co-oper-ation among the workers and management. on a pattern which could later be applied to industry as a whole. The firm concerned was in touch with another in Australia carrying on the same work. About 30 delegates from all parts of New Zealand attended the conference.
