MINOR FLOODING IN PUBLIC LIBRARY.—Part of the lending department in the Canterbury Public Library as it appeared on Saturday night, when rain penetrated the roof and poured down an inner dividing wall. Subscribers assisted members of the staff to remove books from the shelves shown. Water was still running down the wall when this photograph was taken, and a large part of the floor was covered. Many books were damaged. In spite of difficulties, the lending department functioned as usual, and in the left background a subscriber is seen being issued with a book.
