IMPERIAL WAR GRAVES
RESPONSIBII ITY TO END ON DECEMBER 31 (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 11. The Imperial War Graves Commission, on behalf of the Governments of the British Commonwealth, had advised that the period during which sailors and airmen dying on service could be accorded official war graves’ recognition by the commission would terminate on December 31, said the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr W E Parry) to-night. He added that the responsibility of the commission would not therefore extend to graves or commemoration of members of His Majesty’s Forces who might die after that date.
The Minister said this did not prevent a continuance of the practice of treating as war graves those of servicemen of the Second World War dying after December 31 whose deaths were attributable to their service. The Government would continue this practice.
