HAGLEY CLUB
Women outnumbered men by 48 to 20 at the annual meeting of the Hagley Golf Club last evening. Men officers nominated were returned unopposed; but there were elections for the appointment of some women officers. The active membership was reported as 115 men and 107 women, with 37 life members, one country member, and 53 non-playing members. The committee’s decision to change one women’s match day to Thursday to enable the greens to be prepared on Friday for week-end play been confirmed by a special meeting. The Christchurch City Council had taken levels of the whole course with a Y, 'Y *° making extensive improvements. Much depended on whether it was decided to hold a centennial exhibition in the park, the report said. PJ e f ident (^ r J ’ J - Staples) reported that a new three-gang mower costing £415 was now in operation and performing excellently. The meeting approved the purchase of two additional Uni ! s »«^T lle new units were estimated to cost £350. •
The following officers were elected:— patron, Mrs George Harris; president, Mr J. J. Staples; vice-president, Mr A. B Fordyce; immediate past president, Mr J. C. Cullman; captains, Mrs E. Pfankuch and Mr L. F. Casey; women’s secretary. Miss E. Stewart; general secretary and treasurer, Mr J. G. Johnston: auditor, Mr P. C. Browne; greens superintendent. Mr C. Bruere; committee, Mesdames L. Smith, J. Palmer, B. Brueton, E. Whyte. Miss J. C. Macdonald.'Messrs E. R. B. Harding. G. M. Sheldon. E. Sopp, and H. Hooper. Mr R. S. Kent, a> former president, captain, and champion of the club, was elected 9 life member. It was decided to sponsor a British boy under the “Save the Children” scheme
