RUGBY FOOTBALL
VISIT BY FRENCH TEAM NEXT YEAR
LEAGUE PLAYERS EXCLUDED BY NEW ORDER (PA.) WELLINGTON. December 11. • Some concern was 'caused in Rugby football circles by an announcement a few weeks ago that the French Ministry of Sport had issued an order placing Rugby League and Rugby Union players in the same category. This decision jeopardised tile proposed visit by a French Rugby team next year to New Zealand and Australia. This order, however, has now been cancelled, and the French Rugby Federation has banned amateurs- or professionals playing Rugby League from any association with clubs under its jurisdiction.
• No further advice about the proposed tour has been received in New Zealand. The chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union (Mr S. S. Dean) said to-day that the New Zealand delegates to the Imperial conference, Messrs F. Sutherland and G. A. Maddison, would be attending a big conference to-morrow. They have already discussed proposed changes in laws and other matters with ■ representatives of British unions. One of the most important items on the agenda for. to-morrow will be the drawing up of a five-year schedule of international tours.
