WEST GERMAN ZONES
Revision Of Terms Of Merger
U.S. VOTE TO BE _ DECISIVE (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 7.40.) WASHINGTON, Dec. 9. The United States in future will have a controlling voice in the economic and financial policies of “IBizonia” (the British-American zone of Germany) under a tentative agreement reached with Britain on the revision of the BritishAmerican merger scheme. This was revealed to-day by the United States Secretary of the Army (Mr Kenneth Roy all), who told the Senate Appropriations
Committee that the voting power in deciding these policies would be in proportion to each country’s contribution to the overall budget. Since the United States is to assume all of Britain's dollar obligations in Germany at the start of 1948, amounting to more than 200.000,000 dollars, she will thus have a controlling voice. The tentative agreement provides that if Britain disagrees with arty policy she can appeal to the top bizonal authority, though she can in no case overrule the United States’ wishes.
