SEA MAX RETIRED

TROTTING

WINNER OF £5395 IN STAKES

Sea Max, the most tightly assessed mare up to a mile and five furlongs in New Zealand, has been retired. "Sea Max is a great mare, but she has few opportunities to race from her present mark.” said her trainer, W. J. Doyle, yesterday. "I suggested to Mr Todd that she should be retired and mated with U. Scott. Mr Todd agreed, and Sea Max is now at Mr McKenzie’s Roydon Lodge Stud at Yaldhurst.”

Sea Max. which was bred at Makarewa by Mr J. Davidson, won several races in Southland in the interests of A. McLellan, who trained her at Invercargill. A consistent and solid trotter, Sea Max attracted attention to her prospects by winning against the pacers. After winning the Croydon Handicap at the Gore Trotting Club’s meeting on December 26, 1942, she was purchased by Mr S. Todd, who transferred her to W. J. Doyle’s team at Leeston. Sea Max secured her first placing for her new owner when she followed Ordnance home in the Progressive Handicap at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting on February 20, 1943. Under the guidance of Doyle, who is a master with trotters. Sea Max secured two wins and five minor placings in the 194344 season. The 1935 foal of Maxegin and Sea Mist, which is by Wrack from Noiseless, both of which were imported to New Zealand. In the 1945-46 season. Sea Max s three placings included wins in the Beach Handicap at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting on February 16, and in the Renown Handicap at the Forbury Park Trotting Club's meeting on April 27. Last season. Sea Max paid her way with a win in the August Trotting Free-for-All at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s national meeting, and three minor placings. The winner of £5395 during her racing career, Sea Max is a grand type, and she should prove capable of leaving a family of winners.

Jottings The three-year-old Gold Bar cplt, Congo Song, which won three races at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Cup meeting, has been mated with Grecian Gold, which is by Rey de Oro from a smart performer in Arethusa. Scottish Brogue should be suited by the mile and a quarter journey in the Wainoni Handicap at Addington on Saturday. Great Victor, which looks well after his spell, is back in work at W. Hibbard’s team at Upper Riccarton.
