TIMBER LOSSES IN FIRE
4 MORE THAN £3OOO WORTH OF DAMAGE The fire which broke out in the timber stack at the rear of the furniture warehouse of J. M. Mitchell, Ltd., at the corner of Colombo street and Bath street on Monday evening, is estimated to have caused more than £3OOO worth of damage. The stack held nearly 20,000 superficial feet of timber, some of which had cost 2s or more a foot, and very little appeared recoverable yesterday morning. The loss. of fancy timbers such as mahogany, Australian walnut, and cedar, is severe, as these are now dimcult to replace. The insurance on the stock and buildings was held by the Northern Assurance Company, Ltd.
