WORKERS IN COOK ISLANDS
SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC CONDITIONS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, December 10. Trade union consultations in Wellington this week with the object of safeguarding and improving the social and economic conditions of’ workers in the Cook Islands are reported to have reached a point where early representations are expected to be made to the Government. Discussions have been held between the New Zealand Federation of Labour and the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union, and there is said to be general agreement on the representations. The union generally agrees with the policy of the Federation of Labour for a wage increase to organised workers in the Cook Islands relative to that granted by the Arbitration Cpurt, for improved working conditions, and unionist preference.
