RESCUER PRAISED BY CORONER

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, December 9. A tribute to D. M. McMahon,, who dived into the sea and rescued members of the crew when the yacht Blue Peter capsized in Wellington harbour on September 13, was paid by the Coroner (Mr W G. L. Mellish) at an inquest to-day into the death of Cecil Othams Payne, aged 22, a clerk, who was the owner of the yacht, and who died from exposure.

The Coroner said that McMahon, who was still in hospital as a result of “injuries received during the rescue efforts, acted courageously, and his conduct called for special commendation from the Court.
