U.S. INTEREST IN EUROPE
MISSION REPORTS TO CONGRESS (Rec. 7 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Nov. 18. The Soviet was “feverishly preparing for war,” said Mr Everett Dirksen (Republican. Illinois) in the House of Representatives to-day. The United States dare not abandon Europe to Communism because it would imperil Western civilisation. Mr Dirksen was reporting as chairman of the special joint Congressional committee which visited 22 European countries last summer. He predicted that • Czechoslovakia would fall under complete Communist domination within four months, and added that Germany was the key to Europe and must not be abandoned lest Russia Communise the entire Continent The “cold war” between the United States and Russia was not very cold, and it could easily lead to shouting in Germany unless America bolstered that country.
