HARVEST PETROL
QUESTION ASKED IN HOUSE (P.A.) WELLINGTON. Nov. 19. Mr W. A. Sheat (Opposition, Patea) in an urgent question in the .iouse of Representatives to-day asked tne Minister of Supply (Mr A. H. Nordmeyer) to arrange tnat irrespective of the over-ail reduction in allocation oi supplies to petrol resellers adequate su x jplies be made available immediately to ail resellers in Airal areas to enable essential harvesting operations to proceed without interruption. Mr Sheat said dairy companies in Taranaki operating petrol Dowsers complained that insufficient petroi was available to enable "farmers to start harvesting and that crops would deteriorate it harvesting were delayed until December. Crops generally this season were earlier and neavier than usuai. Mr Nordmeyer said the present scueme precluded the Oil Fuel Controller from making special allocations to individuals unless they themselves were holders oi private pumps. Supplies being authorised to resellers and private pump holders were adequate to cover the needs of essential production and every effort would be made to ensure that essential users received the petrol they required. “At the same time it must be recognised that all consumers can effect economies,” the Minister addeu.
