NORTH ISLAND TOURNAMENT (P.A.) PALMERSTON NORTH, Oct. 30. The North Island draughts tournament finished to-day with J. Gardiner (Nelson) winning the championship without losing a game. Gardiner scored 30 points with 21 wins and eight draws. W. Davis (Eltham) narrowly beat J. Mulvey (Nelson) for second place; G. Johnstone (Palmerston North) and C. Souness (Wellington) were equal fourth. In the handicap section, M. Hare (Auckland) (handicap 3) won with 24 points. Johnstone (1|) and Souness (1J) with 23J were second (equal). Following are individual championship points:—J. Gardiner 30, W. Davis 25, A. Mulvey 224. Johnstone and Souness 22, Hare 21, T. Hilhooly (Dannevirke) 20, D. Lowry (Christchurch) 19 J, P.
