COASTAL SHIPPING DELAYED

HEAVY SEAS OFF WELLINGTON (P.A.) WELLINGTON. October 29. Coastal shipping had a difficult time to-day in the face of heavy seas and strong southerly winds. Apart from the two passenger .steamers for, Nelson and Lyttelton the only ship to venture out of Wellington was the Shell Oil Company’s tanker Paua, which left for Lyttelton. The Matangi, which should have sailed at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday for Nelson, sailed shortly after 6 p.m. today. The Tamahine. which received a severe buffeting on her trip from Picton to Wellington on Tuesday, did not sail at her usual time for Picton today. She is expected to sail at midnight. The Kotunui, on her way from Nelson to Wellington, was forced to shelter at Picton and is ekpected at Wellington to-morrow. Heavy seas at the heads kept other in port. They are expected to sail to-morrow.
