OXFORD SCHOOL

75TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS The Oxford school celebrated its 7’th anniversary at the week-end. There was a large gathering of former pupils, particularly those representing the first decade. The celebrations began on Saturday, with a registrating of those in attendance and the distribution of medals. A gymkhana was also held. On Sunday a service of commemoration. conducted by the Ministers’ association, was held in the Town Hall. Although Monday was wet and stormy, there was a very large attendance at a meeting of old pupils at the school, where school work and photographs were inspected. More than 500 persons attended the jubilee banquet in the Town Hall and 200 persons were catered for elsewhere.

Mr T. Doody, chairman of the jubilee committee, presided and welcomed the guests. After the toasts to ‘‘the King,” and “the Honoured Dead,’’ an interesting address was given by Mr F. J. Gorton, chairman of the County Council. The toast to the school was responded to by Miss M. Watson. Mr W. H. Gillespie and Mr J. Skurr (for foundation pupils). Mr Lancelot Watson and Mrs W. Taylor (for teachers past and present), Dr. L. B. Burnett and Mr S. C. Batchelor (for committees past and present), Mr K. Kippenberger (for the education authorities), and Mr W. Dailey (for Home and School Association). Three cheers were given for the chairman. The jubilee cake was cut and distributed. There was a large attendance at the dance in the evening.
