UNIFORMITY IN AIR TRAFFIC
AGREEMENT REACHED (P.A9 AUCKLAND, October 29. The adoption of uniform traffic practices by % officials of some 30 international air lines at the annual meeting of the International Air Transport Association at Rio de Janeiro recently would weld 500.000 miles of air routes operated by the members into an integral international travel system without precedent in the history of trans, said Mr H. M. Denton, traffic manager of Tasman Empire Airways. Ltd., New Zealand’s representative at the conference, who returned to-day by air.
Mr Denton said the conference had taken a step toward practical internationalism, and, apart from making air travel more simple, had had an important bearing on world understanding. Standard forms of tickets and baggage documents and a uniform basic shipping paper for air cargo would eventually replace 100 or more existing forms of varying sizes- and shapes, said Mr Denton. A uniform worldwide rate structure and standard tariff provisions were other imnortant parts of the agreement. Travel agents certified by the association were to be appoi n ted
Salvationist Official Retires.—Commissioner Benjamin Orames, known as the “Digger Lad,’’ has retired from the Salvation Army after 48 years of service. He was Salvation Army international secretary for America, the British Dominions, and South African territories. He took part in the Kalgoorlie gold rush in the eighties, served with the A.I.F. in the Great War in France and Egypt, and held Salvation Army posts in New Zealand, Australia. China. America, and Canada.—London, October 28. Tests of Robot Planes.—The Ministry of Civil Aviation announces that there Will be further tests of pilotless aircraft near Bishop Scilly Isles, for the next six months. There will be about three tests a week. The Ministry warns pilots that robots may be seen divine into the sea from a height of about 40,000 feet.—London, October 20.
