FOUR SHOPS RAZED BY FIRE
SERIOUS BLAZE AT PAHIATUA (P.A.) MASTERTON, October 29. Four shops were destroyed and a fifth gutted by fire at Pahiatua early this morning. Four families in the Trocadero block escaped in their night clothes and lost all their possessions. The shops destroyed were C. Gambitsi’s restaurant and living quarters, Begley and Company’s radio shop, N. J. G. Murdoch’s (men’s outfitters), and a shop selling children’s clothing. Mollison’s hardware shop was gutted. The Palmerston North Fire Brigade was called in to assist in putting out the' fire, and the Masterton brigade stood by till 3 a.m., but their services were not -required.
