CHOLERA IN EGYPT
408 DEATHS IN DAY SUSPECTED CASES IN ALEXANDRIA (Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, October 28. The death-roll in Egypt from cholera in the last 24 hours was 408. There were 880 new cases reported. The disclosure that there are 1500 Suspected cholera cases in Alexandria, where the epidemic was thought not to have struck so severely, has caused anxiety. The latest nation-wide official figures show that 5724 persons have died since the beginning of the outbreak on September 3. Cairo newspapers say that the number of hew cases is about 900 a day. The Prime Minister (Nokrashy Pasha) said that the continuous movement of boatmen up the Nile from the Delta to Egypt was mainly responsible for the disease spreading. Reuters says that plans which the Egyptian Government has drawn up to combat the epidemic if it persists during the winter include the remoculation of the entire population because immunity after inoculation lasts only six months.
