WEST COAST TIMBER FOR AUSTRALIA
From Our Own Reporter GREYMOUTH, October 28. There is a prospect that timber shipments from Greymouth direct to Australia may recommence shortly, probably next month. Tn pre-war years and in the early years of the war, timber shipments to Australia were an important part of West Coast trade, but in more recent years all production has been utilised in the Dominion, with the exception of occasional shipments, principally through Lyttelton. The need for reciprocal trade requires the resumption of shipments so that hardwood supplies can be secured from Australia, and it is apparent that the timber and shipping controllers have completed arrangements for vessels to make direct shipments from the West Coast.
