APPEAL FOR MORE GUIDERS
PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER’S ADDRESS A strong appeal for more guiders throughout the province of Canterbury, was made by Miss M. Oakeley, Provincial Commissioner, at the annual meeting of the Christchurchdivision last evening. Miss Oakeley gave an interesting account of the activities of guides and brownies in the early stages of the war in England, and emphasised the importanpe of guide training. “There are many girls all over Canterbury wanting to be guides; but no guiders are forthcoming,’’ continued Miss Oakeley. “I believe this training is of great value and should be made available to youth throughout the province.” Miss Oakeley paid a tribute to the work of Miss Gwen Rankin, who is resigning from the position of Divisional Commissioner to specialise in training. The appointment of Mrs C. E. B Muschamp and Miss Mary Morten as Divisional Commissioners for Christchurch was announced. Visit of Lady Baden-Powell The Chief Guide, Lady BadenPowell, will visit Christchurch on February 21 and 22, it was reported. Guides from outlying districts will come to Christchurch for the occasion. At the end of Miss Oakeley’s address, folk songs were sung by the Te Wero Ranger Company, and two excellent guide films showing guide activities in war-time England were enjoyed by a large gathering.
