II the Jews, as they said, were willing to accept any sacrifice to achieve a settlement in Palestine, the Arabs should follow their example and recognise the right of the Jews to live in peace in Palestine, said Dr. Juan Rivera Reyes (Panama), reopening the debate in the Palestine Committee of the United Nations Assembly to-day. He believed that the investigating committee’s recommendation of partition was the most convenient solution. Nuri e * s 'Said (Iraq) said that if the United Nations followed the same policy as Britain, it would fail, and the problem would become more complicated than ever. Britain should be asked to hand over her powers immediately to a provisional Government of Palestinian leaders. The Iraqi Foreign Minister (Dr.Fadhil Jamali) said that Zionism was “an aggressive and virulent political movement very much like Nazism.” He added that Zionism had “nothing to do with Palestine except in its aim to penetrate the Middle East, using Palestine as a gate.’’ A distinction should be made between Zionism and Judaism. The latter was a world religion which was truly connected with Palestine,/like Christianity and Islam. He declared that as time moved on the world would increasingly appreciate the harm done to Jewry and to international peace through Zionism. Professor Enrique Rodriguez Fabregat (Uruguay) urged, subject to reservations about the non-inclusion of Western Galilee in the proposed Jewish State as well as the exclusion of Jaffa from the Arab State, that the proposals of the special Palestine Committee should be adopted as a basis for discussion. He said he would, as an emergency measure, submit a resolution providing that immediate and free immigration to Palestine be granted to 30,000 surviving children of the “drama of Europe,” the children’s parents, and all pregnant women. JEWISH ORPHANS TO GO TO CANADA BERLIN, October 6. The fortnightly report by the United States Military Governor in Germany (Lieutenant-General Lucius Clay) discloses that Canada and the preparatory commission of the International Relief Organisation have agreed to resettle in Canada up to 1000 Jewish orphans under 10 years of age from the three western zones and from Austria, France, and Italy.
