RAILWAY WAGES INCREASED
COURT’S PRONOUNCEMENT FOLLOWED
TOTAL COST £764,000 A YEAR (P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 7. Wage and salary adjustments to bring the incomes of Railways Department employees into line with those of other workers in conformity with the standard wage pronouncement by the Court of Arbitration, were agreed to by th£ Government Railways Industrial Tribunal, which met in Wellington this morning. The increases granted by the tribunal will come into effect from October 1 and it is estimated that they will cost £764,000 a year. <- The annual salaries payable to permanent or temporary employees wereincreased by £25. Wages calculated at an hourly rate were increased by 3d an hour, weekly rates were increased by 10s. and monthly rates by £2 3s "6d. The rates of part-time employees were proportionately increased on the basis of time actually worked.
