ADMISSION OF NEGROES
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS IN MISSOURI
PARENTS DECIDE TO OBEY ARCHBISHOP
(Rec. 11 p.m.) NEW YORK, October I. The Catholic Parents’ Association, which was formed in St. Louia (Missouri) four weeks ago to oppose the amission of negroes to white Catholic parochial schools, voted after « stormy session last night to end its opposition and to disband. The parents’ association had planned to take court action to prevent Archbishop Joseph Ritter from carrying out his ruling that negroes could be admitted to white schools in his archdiocese because the only negro school was overcrowded. When Archbishop Ritter threatened to excommunicate those involved in the court action, the parents asked the Apostolic Delegate to the United States to intervene. A letter from the Apostolic Delegate expressing confidence that the parents would comply with Archbishop Ritter’s ruling was read at last night 1 * meeting, whereupon the association decided to disband.
