OBITUARY
MR M. D. CUNNEEN The death occurred i at Ashburton on Saturday of Mr M. D. Cunneen, aged 49 years, chief auctioneer for the Ashburton branch of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand Limited. Mr Cunneen was born at Shand’s Track (near Christ? church), and commenced work for the National Mortgage Company at Ashburton at the age of 13 years. He served on the staff of branches of the firm at Rangiora, Mayfield, Methven, Rakaia, and Christchurch before returning to Ashburton as chief auctioneer.
Mr Cunneen took an active part m local affairs, and was a member of the Ashburton Savage Club, a member of the committee of the Ashburton County Racing Club, a member of the Ashburton Catholic Club, and of the Boy Scouts’ Committee, a member and past-president of the Ashburton Auctioneers’ Association, a president and patron of the Fairfield Cricket Club, and a vice-president of the Celtic Football Club.
He is survived by his widow and three children; also by his mother, Mrs M. M. Cunneen (Ngahere), three sisters and one brother.
