CURRENT NOTES

Miss Ruth Fogo, daughter of Mr and Mrs R. H. Fogo (Invercargill), will leave by the Rangitata for England where she has received an appointment at St. Mary’s Hospital. Miss Fogo, who qualified as a chemist in 1944, been on the staff of a chemist’s shop for a number of years.

News has been received in Christchurch of the birth of a son to Mr A. R. Cutler (Australian High Commissioner) and Mrs Cutler, whose Rome is at Khanaallah.

The popularity of this year’s health stamps is further shown by the fact that in Culverden, the whole quota allotted to the post office was sold within an hour of the opening of the office on Wednesday, the first day of the campaign, and double that number was sold by Friday morning. The splendid support given to the campaign so far is greatly appreciated by the management committee of the -“Glenelg” Health Camp, which depends for its maintenance largely on the proceeds of the sales. The committee hopes •’to have an increased number pf children in camp next year, and with the co-operation of the postal officials, postmen, and women’s organisations, is working hard to establish record returns.

Miss Patlene Sheffield, daughter of Dr. W. H. 'Sheffield, will leave New Zealand on the Arawa this month for England. Miss Sheffield has been honorary secretary of the Students’ Association of Canterbury University College for the last year. She intends to seek employment in England, and will probably be away from New Zealand for about two or, three years.

. Miss M. Gallagher (Wellington), acting supervisor of pre-school services, is at present paying an official visit to Christchurch. On Friday a small party was given in Hay’s Lounge by members of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association to welcome Miss Gallagher. Opportunity was also taken to bid farewell to Miss Ellen McPherson, who has been on the staff of the Beckenham Free Kindergarten. She relinquished her position on Friday. and is to be married soon.
