CROSS-COUNTRY RUNNING
J. CLARKE WINS RACE AT TRENTHAM (PA.) WELLINGTON. Oct. 4. The annual 20-miles harrier race for the Phipson trophy at Trentham on Saturday was won by J. Clarke, of Christchurch, who was making his first attempt at this distance. He took the lead soon after the first lap. and thereafter the issue was never in doubt. Lynndale won the Olympic gold cup for the teams’ race. Results:—Phipson Cup: J. Clarke, 2hr J3mm 18sec, 1; G. Bromley (Marton), 2min rTmin Isec, 2; L. Fox (Christchurch), 2hr 17min 23sec, 3. Teams’ race: Lynndale. 43 points. 1; Presbyterian, 52 points, 2. The Anglican Harrier Club’s inter-club cross-country race, held on Saturday, was Won by St. James’, Riccarton. Results Were as follows:—R. Sutton (St. John’s), 1; A. Cocks (St.' James’). 2; D. Lamont (St. James’), 3. Teams’ points: St. James’ 9. St. John’s 17, St. David’s 23.
