MEMORIALS TO MAJOR GRIGG AND GUNNER PILBROW
Bronze memorial tablets in memory of Major A. N. Grigg, M.C., M.P., who was billed in action in North Africa, ana Gunner M. R. Pilbrow, who died of wounds in the same campaign, have been erected in the Ashburton County Council’s offices. The tablet for Major Grigg, who was a member of the council, has - been appropriately placed above his portrait in the council chambers. Major Grigg’s portrait has been hung between portraits of his father. Mr J. C. N. Grigg, and his grandfather, Mr John Grigg (the founder of Longbeach estate), both of whom were former members of the Ashburton County Council. “It is fitting that the council should place on record for all time his services to, and sacrifice for. his country,” stated a report to the council meeting yesterday. The tablet in memory of Gunner Pilbrow, who was assistant county clerk, has been erected in the public office. “This tablet signifies our appreciation of his loyalty to his country and of the sacrifice which he has made.” stated the report.
