Gallant Thorpe, a four-year-old gelding by Gallant Knight from Lena Thorpe, has raced well for his owner-trainer. G. Bates, to gam a win and six minor placings in his last seven starts. Gallant 1 herpes performance at Orari was particularly good, and he appeals as one of the best prospects in his class. The winner of the second division of the Hapuku Handicap at the Kaikoura Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington on May 24, Soviet Star finished on sohaly in third place to Gay Piper and Jan Mane after being well back in the early part of the first divisian of the Geraldine Trot at Orari. A hardy type Soviet Star should be suited by the longer distance to-day.

Volometre which is trained at Addington by G. M. Mpurtiz, who races her in partnership with Mr C. Campbell, was a winner at the Canterbury Owners and Breeders’ Association’s trials at Addington on September 23. An aged gelding by Lusty Volo from Princess Ada, Tom Gundy was trained for his early races by his breeder. J. F. O’Connell, Walkouaiti. and at his second start as a four-year-old he won the Redcastle Trot Handicap from Jackie Guy at the Oamaru Jockey Club's meeting on May 17, 1945.
