VATICAN POLICY ON RUSSIA
REPLY TO ARCHBISHOP OF YORK ROME, October 2; The Vatican newspaper “Osservatore Romano,” referring to the statement by the Archbishop of York (Dr. C. F. Garbett) that the Vatican’s policy towards Russia encouraged the division of Europe, said that Roman Catholics did not confuse Russia with Communism, Dr. Garbett had said* that the Vatican treated Russia as the enemy of Christian civilisation.
The “Osservatore Romano” said: “Roman Catholics and the Vatican hold, and Dr. Garbett must be on the same side, that not Russia but materialistic Marxian Communism is the capital enemy of Christian civilisation.”
