TROOPS RETURN FROM JAPAN
BOREDOM OF BARRACKS * . LIFE The South Island draft of the troops who returned to New Zealand from Japan by the troopship Kanimbla arrived at Lyttelton by the steamer express Hinemoa yesterday morning. Local men were met at Lyttelton and Christchurch by relatives and friends. Men for the south, the West Coast and other parts of the South Island left Christchurch' by the ordinary passenger trains and buses. Few of the men had any complaints to make, although they were all glad to be home. They spoke of the boredom of barracks life, the stricter discipline, . and of the “spit and polish” regime. They sasL* that the - amenities in the leave centres were now excellent, but complained that leave was too infrequent.
