SCHOOLGIRLS ON BUSES
Sir,—On the Bryndwr bus leaving Wairarapa road at 8.1 ,a.m. to-day, W secondary school girls occupied seats (including those reserved for smokers), while 12 adults were compelled to stand. Consequently eight regular passengers from the top of Rossall street were left on the roadside, the bus being unable to take them. There is a notice in the bus requesting children not to occupy seats while adults are standing; but evidently secondary school girls do not consider themselves children. I understood it was the duty of drivers to avoid this occupation of seats by children, but maybe I am wrong. However, if this state of affairs continues, our buses will be carrying school children only, while adults either walk or cycle to the city. To be left standing at the top of Rossall street is no joke.—Yours, etc., x , IDRIS ROAD. October 2, 1947.
