Importers’ Licences
When importers had goods arriving simultaneously at tfie four main ports, they should obtain sub-licences, said Mr A. R. Guthrey speaking at a meeting of tfie Irfjrttelton Harbour Board yesterday on the recent Aid-to-Britain conference convened by the board. It was not a question for the Collector of Customs, but one for individual importer?, and they should take it up, he said. Referring te the discussion at the conference on the shortage of railway waggens. Mr Guthrey sajd that the recent period had been a peak one for overseas shipping at Lyttelton. It had been described as the busiest since before the war, and as the busiest, for 30 years. The demand would probably decrease later, because of the restriction of imports from the United States.
