HARBOUR FOR SMALL CRAFT
PROPOSAL FOR MAGAZINE BAY The building of a boat harbour at Lyttelton, to which small craft could be transferred, was suggested by the harbourmaster (Captain A. E. Chrisp) in his report to a meeting of the Lyttelton Harbour Board yesterday. Captain Chrisp said that he had received a long list of application* from owners of small craft for moorings, which he had been unable to allocate. The question of making further provision for small craft had been before the board before, but as the applications were increasing, he was compelled to report on the subject again The only satisfactory solution would be the building of a boat harbour. Captain Chrisp said. That would leave the inner basin free for commercial vessels, which would be a very desirable development, not only for space, but also in assisting ship masters and the pilot staff when vessels were entering and leaving the dock. “I don’t see why Magazine Bay could not be made into such a harbour.” Captain Chrisp said. “It would not need a big breakwater —it is a perfect little spot?’ Captain Chrisp’s report was adopted, and it was decided to ask the board's engineer to report on the proposal fer the boat harbour. ,
