FRIENDS OF THE KINDERGARTENS
SUCCESSFUL MEETING Th# reception room at ther Canterbury Women's Club was crowded last evening when the annual reunion of the Friends of the Kindergartens was held, v with Mrs A. Keith Hadfield (president of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association) presiding. Mrs Hadfield welcomed the guests and asked for co-operation in the task of raising money to maintain and extend the work of the kindergartens, vzhich, she said, were giving splendid service to the community. A very enjoyable programme, arranged by Mrs George Ferris, Fendalton, opened with the presentation of a one-act French play by Mrs Beryl Windsor’s Saxon players. The cast included Mrs Windsor, Mrs Ivy Wood, Mrs Ruby Brown, Misses Jeanne Cammock, Noela Russell, and Peggy Short. Piano duets were played by Misses Muriel Stanley and Doreen Jones. Songs were sung by Mr Thomas E. West, for whom Miss Stanley was accompanist; the audience was held spellbound by the conjuring acts of Mr Gordon Rogers, and monologues were given by Mr George Ferris. As a result of the pleasant gathering many new members became Friends of the Kindergartens.
