MAORI CONCERT
Sir, —John Stewart, for the Ngati Otautahi Maori Association, makes the claim that the forthcoming Maori concert for food for Britain is truly a community effort. John Stewart infers that this is the first effort by the Maori people. Three months ago the Tuahiwi Roopu Tamariki (Pipiwharauroa) gave a concert in RiccartOn for food for Britain. Mr Stewart’s association further claims that the performers from local kaingas will contribute to the programme. Why has he purposely avoided asking the assistance of the Tuahiwi Roopu Tamariki (Pipiwharauroa), who have given performances from Palmerston North to three provincial capitals as ♦’far south as Bluff? Is he afraid that they would outshine his local performers? Last week-end at Waimate the basketball tournament for the Pitama Cup made a contribution to this worthy cause.—Yours, etc., * G. APERIRA RIWAI. For Tuahiwi Roopu Tamariki. September 29, 1947.
