WOODLAND CAR PARK
COUNCIL RESCINDS ESTABLISHMENT The decision to establish a woodland car park near the Returned Services’ Association Bowling Club green in Hagley Park was rescinded by the City Council last evening. The chairman of the reserves committee (Cr. J. N. Clarke said Jn his report that as the Returned Services’ Association had now intimated that it did not wish to be associated further with the proposals in view of the protests being made, the committee now recommended that the resolution passed on June 5 be rescinded. The Christchurch Beautifying Association wrote opposing the car park, feeling that it would be ‘‘the thin edge of the wedge for further encroachment by motorists.” “Ah’” exclaimed several councillors when Cr. Clarke’s report was read; but there was no other comment.
