NORTH OTAGO BEATEN BY 39 POINTS
LAST RANFURLY SHIfcLD GAME OF SEASON (P.A.) DUNEDIN, September 28. Completely outclassing the challenger. North Otago, in all departments, Otago won the final Ranfurly Shield match of the season by 42 points to 3 on Saturday. The play was seldom out of the challenger’s territory, and with a good supply of the ball from scrums, line-outs, and loose rucks, the fast Otago backs proved too clever and resourceful for their opponents. One of the most- noteworthy features of the game was the fact that although 12 tries were scored, only one was converted. Otago tried four goal kickers. The first half ended with the score Otago 15, North Otago 0, the Otago backs and forwards having combined in a number of bright movements which bewildered the defence. Tries were scored by G. J. Moore, R. R. Elvidge, D. Hamilton and K. J. O’Connor, and R. Orr kicked a penalty goal. Otago kept up the pressure in the second half and piled on 27 more points. The scorers were J. C. Kearney, O’Connor, J. McNab, L. W. Woodhouse, I. J Hotting, J. M. Tanner, and Elvidge.
