INCREASED COAL OUTPUT
MINES OWNED BY STATE From Our Own Reporter WELLINGTON, September 26. The gross output of the State coal mines for the year ended March 31 was 1,097,273 tons, an increase of 72,336 tons compared with the previous year. The output at the Liverpool colliery decreased by 22,031 tons, the total from this mine being 100,077 tons. The output at the Strongman colliery was 99.329 tons, compared with 100,275 tons the previous year. The Blackball colliery showed a decrease in output of 1387 tons. Min-t ing conditions at this colliery are still unfavourable, and the coal is friable. An increase in output of 4800 tons was recorded at the Dobson colliery, and prospects for the working of this mine are reported to be good for many years. The total output from the Stockton State mifies increased by 22,239 tons to 237,460 tons.
Since the Burke’s Creek colliery was taken over on June 1 the output from there has been 13,550 tons.
Development work at the Garvey Creek mine is still being carried out. The output at the Mossbank Colliery increased by 1340 tons to 25.468 tons.
During the year 49,475 tons were produced from the Ohai opencast mines.
