UNION OF BURMA
PROVISIONAL PRESIDENT ELECTED (Rec. 7 p.m.) RANGOON, September 25. The Burmese Constituent Assembly elected the leading Shan chieftain. Sao Shwe Thaike Cooa, the Sambwa of Yarnghwe, to be the provisional President of the Union of Burma. It also elected Thakin Nu provisional Prime Minister of the Union Government, with power to sign treaties. Both are expected to assume office on the transfer of power, when the Constituent Assembly will function as the Parliament of the Union.
