JUNAGADH AND INDIA
SUGGESTED POLL ON FUTURE (Rec. 7 p.m.) NEW DELHI. Sept. 25. The Indian Union has suggested to Pakistan that a referendum should be held in the Moslem-ruled princely State of Junagadh, which has a predominantly Hindu population, to ascertain whether the people wish to be united with India or Pakistan. Junagadh has already officially acceded to Pakistan. The communique announcing the proposal said that India was always willing to find a solution of “this complicated and delicate problem” by friendly discussion. Pakistan has not yet replied. The Bombay correspondent of Reuters says that the Hindu subjects of Junagadh have established in Bombay a “provisional Government” with the stated intention of carrying out a holy war on Junagadh until the State joins the Dominion of India.
