VITAL STATISTICS FOR AUGUST
There were decreases in births, deaths and marriages in Christchurch for the month of August as compared with the same period last year. The vital statistics, with figures for the corresponding month last ydar in parenthesis, were: births, 348 (360); deaths. 177 (212); marriage notices, 141 (177); marriages in the office, 30 (35). For the eight months of the year there were increases in the number of births and a decrease of one in the number of deaths as compared with the corresponding period last year. The figures were: births, 2909 (2593); deaths, 1283 (1284); marriage notices, 1336 (1500); marriages in the office 254 (274).
