DRY WEATHER IN BRITAIN

EFFECT ON SUGAR BEET CROPS (Special Correspondent N.Z.F.A.) (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, August 28. The biggest danger created by the continued dry conditions in Britain is that sugar beet crops, which iorm the basis of the country’s domestic sugar supply, will be seriously affected. In Surrey, farmers report that the beet yield will be less than half last year’s crop. Similar conditions are reported in Lincolnshire and other beetgrowing counties. In parts of Eas Anglia the ground is so dry tha : ploughing has been abandoned. Although temperatures have droppec from about 80 degrees there is stil no sign of a break in the warm spell.
