BENZOLE CATCHES ALIGHT

THREE MEN SUFFER BURNS

> WELLINGTON, August 27. Three workmen suffered burns when a 4»>-gallon drum of benzole caught factory of Restar (Auckland), Ltd., Hill street, Onehunga, this afternoon. Leslie Alien Bull, aged 30, of Grey Lynn, was admitted to the Green Lane Hospital suffering from burns to the arms and face, and two others Derrick Alfred Knight, aged 27, and Robert James Ross, aged 27, were treated for burns to the hands and face at the casualty department of the hospital and discharged. When the benzole burst into flame the building was quickly filled with smoke. Messrs Knight and Ross rushed out of the main door a few feet away and collapsed in the yard. Mr Bull remained behind and attempted to fight the flames with a chemical extinguisher. He was severely burned and had to rush outside a few minutes later.

The fire was extinguished with chemicals before it had spread to other materials in the factory. The three injured men, who, with the manager (Mr A. E. Knight), are joint owners of the business, were taken to hospital by ambulance.
