WOMAN’S DEATH

A woman collapsed while riding on the bar of her husband’s bicycle in Papanui road at 9.45 p.m. on Tuesday, and died shortly afterwards. She was Mrs Alice Elizabeth Gemmell, aged 53 years, of 32 Tonbridge street. When admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital after her collapse she was found to be dead. An inquest will be opened this morning before the Coroner, Mr H. P. Lawry.

Denniston Mine Dispute.—Underground workers at the Denniston coal mine resumed hewing yesterday, but tradesmen employed about the mine did not resume work. Some tradesmen employed in the mine’s powerhouse worked yesterday, under protest, to enable the mine to continue production. The mine was idle on Tuesday because of a dispute between the management and tradesmen.
