THEFT OF CARGO ALLEGED
Michael Ruddick, an able seaman, aged 29 years, and Alan Johnson Gray, able seaman, aged 19 years, were separately charged in the Magistrate's Court at Lyttelton yesterday, before Messrs T. A. Mahar and W. D. Gower, Justices of the Peace, with stealing two cartons containing 96 tins of sardines, valued at £3 Bs, the property of the Union Steam Ship Company An application by Senior-Ser-geant F. Hayhurst for a remand until today was granted. Clive Harold Clark, a waterside worker, aged 48 years, of Christchurch, was charged with stealing one tin of sardines, valued at lOd. the property of the Union Steam Ship Company. On the application of Mr Hayhurst, he was remanded to appear to-day, bail being granted in self of £5O and one surety of £5O.
