SOUTH CANTERBURY COMPETITIONS
From Our Own Reporter TIMARU, August 27 All sessions of the competitions at present being conducted at Timaru under the auspices of the South Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Piping and Dancing Association were again well attended today. The judge of the National dancing, Mrs E. D. Ritchie (Christchurch), said that the standard of the dancing on Tuesday was the highest she had seen in 15 years’ experience of judging, particularly in the beginners' classes. She was pleased to see that a number of children had attempted the work of the New Zealand Piping and Dancing Association Academy. She believed, Mrs Ritchie added, that this year’s festival at Timaru was the first at which the Academy’s syllabus had been introduced.
