TURNOVER INCREASES TO £338,498.000 One of the world’s largest trading concerns, Lever Brothers and Unilever, often referred to as the soap kings of the world, has an enormous turnover. Every detail of the company’s operations in 1946, the "Financial Times” (London) says, the report of Lever Brothers and Unilever confirms the expansion in the group’s activities. Although it is stated that throughout the world the return to normal trading conditions was handicapped by shortage of raw. materials, the turnover for the year increased by £31,150,000 to £338,498,000. Of this total sales of margarine and edible oils increased from £50,188,000 to £53,572,000. other vegetable and animal oil and fats from £90.820,000 to £94,854.000. but soap and other detergents declined from £61,023,000 to £57,396,000. Merchandise mainly handled by the United Africa group, rose from £28.205,000 to £35.695.000. The aggregate consolidated profit expanded by £4.298.838 to £28.488.755. Taxation on profits amounted to £11.253.869. or 3.32 per cent., as compared with £13,092,276, or 4.26 per cent., for the previous year.
