USE OF SOUTHLAND BEECH TIMBER

Between 400,000 and 500,000 superficial feet of Southland beech will be used esch year by a new industry—the manufacture of wooden heels for the footwear trade—which has been established in Christchurch. The. Auckland firm of J. Edwards and Son, Ltd., has opened a subsidiary factory in the city, which will eventually produce 15,000 pairs of heels a -zeek. Eight hands are employed at present, and the staff will be increased to 12 later.
