SCHOOLS’ MUSIC FESTIVAL
PERFORMANCES PRAISED BY BOARD
Those responsible for the high standard of performance in the recent primary schools’ music festival were congratulated by members of the Canterbury Education Board at its meeting on Friday. The choice of programmes in the festival, said the acting-chairman (Mr A. E. Lawrence) indicated that the schools were aiming at a high standard of singing. The festival proved the value of the specialist teacher. There had been recent criticism of New Zealanders’ speech; but some splendid choral speaking had been a feature of the festival.
